In modern days, packaging design has gone beyond functionalism and it is now considered one of most interesting and complicated things that designers do. Most products don\u2019t mean anything without their packaging. A well-designed package includes all of the requirements within its life cycle. This life cycle begins with the package being used as a product container (whether it is done by hand or by machinery). The package continues its journey to the supermarket and consequently to where the product is going to be used. And finally after usage it is faced with the commonly accepted strict environmental laws<\/p>\n
The packaging needs to meet different requirements in each of these steps: to keep the product safe, help selling the product and to help the consumer in using it<\/p>\n
Most importantly, a package should be attractive. In a supermarket, thousands of products are competing to catch the attention of a buyer. And based on research, a package on a supermarket shelf has less than three seconds to do that. It doesn\u2019t mean that the package should be shiny or simple; rather it should be in accordance with the customer\u2019s taste<\/p>\n
There are more than ten thousand different food and non-food packages in a regular supermarket to choose from. So the competition is about being seen among the crowd. A key factor for standing out is to include simple and recognizable symbols; symbols that can be recognized without even looking at them directly. You could call these symbols, visual values. There are tools, such as form, color, visualization and brand name that can be employed to create visual value and to be more visible in consequence<\/p>\n
